I would appreciate it if anyone can assist with the suggested solution from a Microsoft rep. Given the spontaneous/intermittent nature of the problem, it is difficult to diagnose and such will require exensive testing. Update 2: Microsoft are now aware of the problem and I am working with them to try to resolve the issue.

Update 1: Despite the title (which I cannot edit) the GPU make/model and whether hardware acceleration is supported or not seems irrelevant, as the issue has now been observed on PCs with varying hardware configurations and GPUs from all manufacturers.
